The Chatham-Kent PUC will “consider” an online petition circulating about Wallaceburg’s drinking water.

Rob Bernardi, facilities and systems manager for the Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission, told the Sydenham Current, he first heard about the petition today (Dec. 23.)

“We’ll take that into consideration as well,” Bernardi said.

The online petition, created by Wallaceburg resident Henrie Timmers, has climbed to 366 people.

By signing the petition located at change.org, these individuals have have stated they do not want Wallaceburg’s water coming from Lake Erie.

However, this is the preferred option being posed by Stantec Consulting, who was hired by the Chatham-Kent PUC to conduct the Wallaceburg and Area Water Supply System Municipal Class Environmental Assessment.

Bernardi said the PUC has received all the comment forms and feedback from Stantec about the Wallaceburg EA.

“We don’t have an exact tally for how many people sent in feedback, but it was what we expected,” he said.

Bernardi said the PUC and Stantec is in the process of responding to “five people” who posed questions as part of the feedback process.

He added no date has been confirmed for the third and final public consultation meeting.
