Community Living Wallaceburg was presented with an $8,000 cheque from the Chatham-Kent Community Foundation at a ceremony held on December 22 at the Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre.

The funding, made available through the South Kent Wind Community Fund, will be put towards the purchase a new vehicle equipped with the necessary devices to enable people supported by the Agency to continue to access their community.

“Reliable and accessible transportation is vital to our organization and to our clients, given that we operate in a rural area where public transit is often not an option,” said David Katzman, Executive Director, Community Living Wallaceburg. “The overwhelming generosity shown by the Chatham-Kent Community Foundation and the South Kent Wind Fund will ensure people continue to participate fully in all elements of community life.”

Community Living Wallaceburg maintains a fleet of five accessible vehicles that are used by approximately 100 people and their staff to attend many appointments and functions.

The costs associated with purchasing an accessible vehicle are in excess of $65,000.

The Agency is actively engaged with other community stakeholders to raise additional funding for the purchase of a new accessible vehicle in 2015.
