Tattered Canadian flag being taken down

A tattered and ripped Canadian flag in Crothers Conservation Area in Wallaceburg is set to be taken down.

Neighbours in the area are not impressed that the flag continued to be raised in the park, despite its poor condition.

“It just really bugs me that they would let our Canada flag get like that,” said Wallaceburg resident Willy Fields. It’s “disrespectful towards our country.”

Fields said the flag has been in rough shape for about a year.

Jane McGee, facilities supervisor for recreation facilities in Wallaceburg, said she thought the flag had already been taken down.

“I was talking to someone just yesterday who was walking their dog and said the flag was still up,” McGee said. “I will have it taken down… I’ll make sure it is down.”

Crothers Conservation Area is an urban park within the community of Wallaceburg and is operated by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

The park is also along the route of the Wallaceburg Water Trail linking Wilkesport, Dresden and Mitchell Bay to Wallaceburg and on to the St. Clair River.
