An attempted murder case in Wallaceburg is on-going.

20-year-old Taylor Ermatinger, of Walpole Island, is set to appear in a Chatham courtroom on January 14 to be spoken to.

Ermatinger is charged with attempted murder, stemming from an incident at Sam’s Hotel in Wallaceburg back in May.

Chatham-Kent Police officials say the incident left a 19-year-old Wallaceburg man with critical head injuries, however conversations on social media say the victim’s condition has improved.

Ermatinger had originally been denied bail in the Ontario Court of Justice on June 4.

However, a bail review was requested.

A Superior Court Justice overturned the decision and granted Ermatinger a release on a recognizance on July 21, which included a long list of conditions.

Another person charged in the case, 18-year-old Jessy Elder of Wallaceburg, is out of custody as well.

Elder pleaded guilty on Aug. 7 to obstructing police and was given a 30 day sentence.

Elder was also handed a five-year weapons prohibition, 18-months of probation and was ordered to pay a victim fine surcharge of $200.

He served 80 days in pre-sentence custody and was given credit for serving 120 days in jail.

Charges against Elder for being an accessory to an attempted murder, were withdrawn.

We’ll provide more information about the case when it becomes available.
