The Adult Activity Centre in Wallaceburg will be adding some new fitness equipment to their facility thanks to a local grant program.
The Chatham-Kent Community Foundation and South Kent Wind announced last month the next wave of grant recipients across Chatham-Kent, handing out $130,533 to 19 organizations in total.
The Adult Activity Centre received a sum of $6,586.
“We use it a lot, we have a lot of equipment upstairs but we use it so much that it wears out,” said Cheryl Burrage, coordinator at the Centre. “There is a lot of different equipment that we would like, so we’re going to buy it with this.”
Burrage said the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 18 in Wallaceburg helped the Centre land the grant.
“We wanted to apply for this grant, but in order to apply we needed a charity number,” Burrage said. “We are not a charity, we’re a non-profit. The Legion was kind enough to offer to help us, using their charity number so we could get this grant.
Burrage added: “The Legion and the Centre are both all about promoting social and physical activity for anyone 45-years of age and up.”
Representatives from the Chatham Kent Community Foundation and South Kent Wind were on hand for a cheque presentation back in December at the Centre.
