The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a lengthy fraud investigation.

In August 2014, a woman contacted police to report that she had been the victim of a fraud.

Through investigation, officers learned that the owner operator of ‘Ric Mahon Financial’ and ‘Tax Back Ventures’ on St. Clair Street in Chatham was using money given to him as a financial investor for his own personal use.

Since 2006, police have confirmed that nine elderly people have been defrauded, the majority of whom are between the ages of 70-90.

The total investment by all nine victims is in excess of 1.1 million dollars.

Yesterday, police located the man and he was taken into custody.

Richard Mahon, 67 years, of Alexandria Avenue in Chatham has been charged with:

– Fraud Over $5000 x9

– Criminal Breach of Trust x9

He was transported to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service believe there may be more victims and urge anyone with concerns or information to please contact Constable Gary Oriet at garyor@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6619.
