The Chatham-Kent Fire Department is investigating after a fire Sunday night in South Kent.
Firefighters from Blenheim, Erieau, Harwich North, Raleigh South and Ridgetown were called to 9020 Bisnett Line in Blenheim at 9:53 p.m. to a two and a half storey single residential house.
“Firefighters from Station 18, (Blenheim) and Station 14 (Erieau) responded to a reported working fire,” stated Bob Davidson, assistant fire chief. “Upon arrival fire crews initiated an offensive interior fire attack, but were forced to withdraw to a defensive exterior fire attack due to the integrity of the floors in the structure.”
Davidson added: “Tanker trucks from Station 12 (Harwich North), Station 16 (Raleigh South) and Station 11 (Ridgetown) supplemented the response with a water supply.
Davidson said there was no one home at the time of the fire.
Damage is pegged at $300,000, while $150,000 worth of property was saved.
There was some exposure to a prefabricated shed/barn.
The investigation is on-going.
