Wallaceburg Rotary learn about ‘greenhouses’

Kees Boeters spoke to the Rotary Club of Wallaceburg on Thursday, January 29th work in the greenhouse business.

He is a System Consultant in Water and Process Controls, working for PRIVA North America, Inc.

He lives in Ridgetown and is the President of the Rotary Club of Ridgetown.

Kees was born in the Netherlands, and moved to Canada in 1988.

Kees spoke to the the club about his work in greenhouse construction, asd he is involved in designing and building the computerized heating & cooling systems, irrigation systems, etc.

He has been working in the greenhouse business for 48 years, starting in Westland, Holland.

The first installation was started in 1966 in Westland, the Netherlands, when he was working for Van den Arend BV.

Kees Boeters - January 29, 2015He showed discussed many views of the greenhouses under construction and employees working there, as well as scenes of the barges used to transport the produce to the markets.

The club also saw views of the electrical and computer control systems.

During the show, he explained how everything was done during the construction and how the control systems work to maintain the right temperature and humidity levels, etc.

He showed the club slides of some of the greenhouse projects he has worked on in many countries, including Al Aflaj, Saudi Arabia; Bronx, New York; Forshan, China in 1986; Cuba in 1990; Wilcox, Arizona; Mesila Park, New Mexico; as well as a number of Canadian sites in the Leamington area.

The club saw one greenhouse on the roof of a parking garage in Vancouver, B.C.

He also showed a number of promotional videos produced by various companies, including Priva in the Leamington area; Truly Green Farms in Chatham; Greenhill Produce; Nature Fresh in Leamington; Hollandia Produce in California; Houweling CHP and others.

Many club members said it was an entertaining, fascinating and informative presentation.
