Pellet guns seized in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a search warrant yesterday.

In March 2012, the man was released with conditions not to possess any firearms or ammunition. In July 2012, the man was issued a Prohibition Order stating that he was not to possess firearms or ammunition for life.

Over the last month, police received information that the man was in possession of firearms. As a result, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section and Critical Incident Response Team executed a search warrant at a residence on the south side of Chatham.

Officers located and seized three pellet guns, which as per the Criminal Code of Canada are defined as firearms.

Shotgun shells were also found and seized.

The 42-year-old Chatham man has been charged with four counts of being in possession of a firearm or ammunition and four counts of failing to comply.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
