Update #2: The freezing rain warning has ended.

Update: A freezing rain warning has been issued by Environment Canada.

Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

Radar indicates bands of freezing rain over portions of Southwestern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe moving west to east just north of a stationary warm front. These freezing rain conditions will likely persist until later this evening when the precipitation is forecast to switch over to snow.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

Freezing Rain Warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Police are reminding everyone to drive safe:

Original story: Environment Canada has issued a freezing drizzle advisory, as areas of freezing drizzle are expected or occurring.

There have been several reports of steady freezing drizzle over the Greater Toronto Area north towards Collingwood and over southwestern Ontario.

Thus the Freezing Drizzle advisory has been expanded.

As colder air creeps in from the north precipitation is expected to switch over to light snow later this afternoon.

As a result icy conditions on untreated roads and sidewalks will result in locally hazardous travelling conditions. The freezing drizzle will be mixed with some snow and ice pellets at times.

Please refer to your public forecast for further details.

Freezing drizzle can produce thin, hard to detect layers of ice. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.
