Council Composition and Ward Boundary Review public consultation details announced

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has announced details for the upcoming public engagement sessions regarding the Council Composition and Ward Boundary Review.

“On Nov 4, 2024, StrategyCorp presented their findings and options for new Council composition and ward boundaries in Chatham-Kent,” Municipal officials said in a media release.

“Chatham-Kent has grown and evolved since the current ward boundaries were drawn 25 years ago at amalgamation. This review aims to provide a design concept of a Council and ward boundary structure that considers the Chatham-Kent of today and expected population growth through the 2026 and 2030 elections.”

Municipal officials added: “The goal of any changes made to ward boundaries, would be to enhance the current level of effectiveness of representation for all residents.”

The public will have opportunities to provide input and feedback on all the options through two upcoming public engagement sessions at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre on the following dates:

– November 14 at 6 p.m. – Meeting Room 1A

– November 25 at 6 p.m. – Meeting Room 1A

“Both public engagement sessions will include a presentation by StrategyCorp, followed by allotted time for public deputations,” Municipal officials say.

“The in-person meetings will be live streamed over our municipal Facebook and YouTube channels. There will also be a survey going live on November 8 on the Council Composition and Ward Boundary Review Let’s Talk Page.”

Paper copies of the Let’s Talk survey will also be made available at all local municipal centres, Municipal officials added.

As per the Chatham-Kent Procedure By-law, section 7.10 (c) – no deputations will be received at the Council meeting when there has been at least one public meeting held at which the public was provided the opportunity to make formal presentations on that subject matter, Municipal officials added.
