An amount of suspected heroin was found during a traffic stop on the 401.
On February 9, 2015, just after 11:00 a.m., a West Region Highway Enforcement Team (WRHET) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer conducted a traffic stop on a Pontiac Grand Am for a speed violation, on Highway 401 eastbound near Dhillon Side Road.
During subsequent OPP traffic investigation at roadside, the officer learned that the male passenger was in possession of a controlled substance. As the officer was placing the male under arrest, he resisted, and a brief struggle ensued between the male and the officer.
The officer successfully handcuffed and arrested the male. He was found to be in possession of a small amount of suspected heroin. A vehicle search was conducted and resulted in the seizure of a small amount of suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia from within the vehicle.
As a result, the driver, a 31-year-old Calgary woman has been charged with Possession of Heroin and Speeding. She will appear in a Chatham court on February 26, 2015, to answer to the charges.
The passenger, a 35-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been charged with Possession of Heroin and Resist Peace Officer.
He will appear in a Chatham court on February 11, 2015, to answer to the charges.
