The Academy Awards from a Wallaceburg perspective

The Academy Awards are a movie awards ceremony that are meant to honour and recognize the best movies to come out each year.

This year’s 87th annual event is hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, and will be airing on Sunday, February 22.

David Brundritt, owner and operator of Movie Time in Wallaceburg, spoke with the Sydenham Current about how the big Hollywood award show affects the small Chatham-Kent town.

“The Oscars tend to represent drama and Film festivals,” Brundritt said.

Wallaceburg tends to rent more comedy and action movies, as opposed to dramas, Brundritt added.

The most rented movie in 2014 by Wallaceburg audiences was Disney’s Frozen, which despite being released in 2013, is still very popular with the Wallaceburg demographic.

“Nine nominations for Birdman was a surprise,” said Brundritt.

A movie like Birdman, which was a film shot in a series of long takes, is generally not a movie most Wallaceburg renters will enjoy, Brundritt said.

There are a number of Oscar nominated films that Brundritt feels passionately about.

The Judge, The Wild, and Gone Girl are all films Brundritt says he recommends from this year’s list of nominees.

If you are looking to catch up on some of this year’s Oscar films, Wallaceburg’s Movie Time has a section devoted entirely to this year’s nominees.
