Pair of water leaks closing Dufferin Ave.

A section of Dufferin Avenue is set to be closed in Wallaceburg, as Chatham-Kent Public Works deals with a pair of water main breaks.

Paul Demars, the roads supervisor in Wallaceburg, said crews were working on fixing one problem earlier this morning, when a second break was discovered.

Both breaks are located near the end of the road by The Clubhouse at Baldoon.

“About 1,000 feet from each other,” Demars said.

The second issue is directly in the middle of the road along Dufferin Avenue, which will force the road to the closed, Demars said.

It normally takes a crew five hours to make the necessary repairs, however Demars said they were having trouble locating the source of the second break.

“The frost is so thick… it is making it difficult,” he said.

The timeline is unknown at this point.

Demars said residents should still have running water in the area along Dufferin Ave. as the system was switched over to the Lambton County water system temporarily.

We’ll provide more information when it becomes available.
