Community partnership grants, infrastructure projects OK’d

Chatham-Kent council rubber stamped a pair of items on Monday night, which will see some dollars injected into Dresden and Wallaceburg.

The 2015 round of the Community Partnership Fund, including a total of 18 applications totaling $139,251.35 under the “Community Projects” portion and nine applications totaling $34,225 under the “Festivals and Events” were OK’d.

The Wallaceburg BIA will receive $10,000 for the downtown Wallaceburg park beautification project.

The Wallaceburg Lakers are being handed $10,000 as well.

In Dresden, the Dresden Community Development Association will receive $10,000 to go towards the Lambton-Kent community sports field improvement project.

The Agricultural Society will receive $5,000 to go towards their washroom building upgrade.

Some events are set to get a boost in Dresden and Wallaceburg through the Partnership funding.

The Selkirk History Faire will be handed $5,000 for their annual event.

The Dresden Sidestreets Youth Centre is receiving $725 to go towards their 12th annual Community Street Dance.

The Wallaceburg and District Council for the Arts will receive $5,000 to go towards the Wallaceburg Canada Day festivities.

In a separate report, $2.8 million worth of building lifecycle projects were approved by council.

Among the projects on the “priority” list is some work to the Wallaceburg and District Museum and Von Ayres Cultural Centre.

The work includes some fire safety upgrades such as, door rating issues, detection devices, some exit signage and wall separation upgrades.

The Wallaceburg Municipal Centre is set to have their building HVAC controls upgraded.

Also on the priority list, the Dresden Library is receiving some fire safety upgrades, such as fire stopping including removal/replacement of some drop ceiling areas.

The Dover fire hall is also slated for a new roof.
