A Chatham councillor wants to hire a consultant to investigate the ward boundaries and the size of council in Chatham-Kent.

Derek Robertson entered a notice of motion at Monday’s regular council meeting. He wants to see the work completed by the governance task force back in 2010, which included recommendations for ward boundary changes and a reduction in the size of council, to be looked at by a third party.

He said the wards should be representative of the population.

He added the budget should be no more than $20,000.

Robertson had brought forward a motion back in 2011 for some boundary changes in Chatham-Kent.

Most notably, Robertson had requested to add two wards to Chatham, for a total of eight wards across Chatham-Kent with two people elected to represent each ward.

His recommendation, which was a variation of those made by a governance task force, was voted down by council at the time.

Robertson will bring forward his motion during a council meeting next month.
