The Thames Art Gallery presents a new multimedia exhibition of works by artists Rebecca Baird and Philip Cote.

The exhibition will open Friday, March 20 at 7pm with a smudging ceremony and song. Both artists will be present to answer any questions and cedar tea will be served along with blueberry bannock.

Rebecca Baird (Cree/Metis) is a highly regarded artist exploring themes of First Nations identity and representation in a number of contemporary media, including installation/sculpture, painting, and printmaking.

She has received a number of significant awards and grants, and has exhibited extensively in Canada.

In 2001, Baird was awarded a public art commission to create a mural for Toronto’s Lester B. Pearson International Airport. An MFA graduate of OCADU’s Indigenous Visual Culture Program, she was most recently featured in the exhibition, Op Art Re-Imaged: Imaginable Spaces (2014) presented at Trinity Square Video.

Philip is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design and has been at the forefront of a group of artists who are exploring new ways to imbue sculpture and painting with traditional spiritual perspectives.

Cote is a citizen of Moose Deer Point First Nation, and claims descendancy from Tecumseh.

This is a free and family friendly evening that is open to everyone. The Thames Art Gallery is located inside the Chatham Cultural Centre. The Cultural Centre is located at 75 William Street North, Chatham.
