Poll: Do you plan on keeping your new garbage tote?

Some large garbage bins are set to be left in Wallaceburg driveways on Monday, March 23..

‘Toter carts’ – which can carry three garbage bags are being distributed in Wallaceburg by Progressive Waste Systems as part of a 45-day pilot project in Wallaceburg.

After the time period is up, anyone who chooses to keep the bins will be billed $75.

  1. If they make this mandatory then they should be provided at no cost. The taxes we pay go to providing garbage collection.

  2. I do not have enough garbage to fill a small garbage pail, so to cart this huge thing out every weekend would not be something I want to do. It may be a great idea for larger families who need to put more out but I use a composter and recycle everything that I am able to.

  3. How do we opt out? We never asked for this garbage tote in the first place and we don’t even want to try them during the pilot project in Wallaceburg! We don’t want to be responsible for this garbage tote during the pilot project. What if it is stolen or goes missing and we can’t return it, will we have to pay the $75? How are they keeping track of these totes? Will we get a receipt that we returned it so we don’t get the bill? Is it legal to force the trial on us without our permission? Can we refuse them to drop it off on our property? Anyone have any answers to any of these questions?
