A cooking accident is to blame, after a house fire Thursday evening in Wallaceburg.
Wallaceburg firefighters, about 12 in total, attended to 119 Duke Street at 7:20 p.m. for a working structure fire.
Multiple firefighters could be seen inside the second storey of the house, while smoke billowed out of the vents in the roof.
Fire officials said the homeowner was the lone occupant at the time and was taken to hospital in Wallaceburg to treat moderate burns.
The cause has been ruled accidental and is being blamed on a cooking accident.
Firefighters cleared the scene at around 9:10 p.m. and turned the investigation over to the Chatham-Kent Police Service.
Damage is pegged at $130,000, while about $25,000 worth of property was saved.
