Light standard falls at Steinhoff Park

A tall light standard at Steinhoff Park in Wallaceburg has taken a tumble.

Jane McGee, facilities supervisor for recreation facilities in Wallaceburg, said she attended the park around 3:30 p.m. this afternoon (March 30) where she spotted the large light standard fallen down, with the lights smashed on the ground.

“Certainly the power is off… so there is no safety concern in terms of power,” McGee said.

Shattered glass is spread out on the ground, while the twisted up metal light standard is resting on the fence.

McGee said a crew is being sent to the Wallaceburg park to clean up the mess.

“I’m guessing that this is wind related,” she said. “There is no evidence of anything fallen on it.”

McGee said some repair work had been conducted on this particular light standard within the past year.

We’ll provide more information when it becomes available.
