C-K joins Dig Safe Month campaign

Dig Safe Month 1

Chatham-Kent joined the Dig Safe Month Campaign on Thursday at the Civic Centre with an official flag-raising and remarks from Mayor Randy Hope and the local Dig Safe Campaign Chair, Dan Foucault, a construction supervisor with Union Gas.

This month is dedicated to improving safety and reducing damages to underground facilities by raising awareness of safe digging practices through local events across the province.

“It’s about creating a safer environment for everyone in the construction industry, and for the local residents as well,” said Mayor Hope.

“Digging safely is a community effort,” said Foucault.

Dig Safe Month has been organized by the Ontario Regional Common Ground Alliance (ORCGA), which represents organizations that own and maintain underground infrastructure, such as electrical and gas lines. Their message is “Call before you dig.” The alliance operates a free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week telephone and online service called Ontario One Call (ON1Call) to help people locate underground infrastructure before planting a tree or digging for a deck or fence.

Request your free locate online or call 1-800-400-2255. Visit www.digsafe.ca for more information on Dig Safe Month, “Call before You Dig”, safety guidelines and how to get involved.
