Easter: What does it mean to you?

jesus christ cross easter

From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Today is the most important day on the Christian calendar, the day when we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Does that fact mean anything to you?

Before you answer, let me share the words of 1 Corinthians 15:19-20, which say, “If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead…”

If you are still wondering why Christ’s resurrection should be of any importance to you, that there is a promise of life after this one, then let me ask you a few questions.

Would it matter if you had loved ones aboard Germanwings flight 9525 that recently crashed in the French Alps killing all 150 passengers on board?

Would it matter if you had a family member captured by ISIS whose public beheading was shown on television?

Would it matter if you lost a child or grandchild at birth or through a miscarriage?

Would it matter if your best friend succumbed to cancer in the prime of their life?

Would it matter if the only hope of anything life has to offer was what happens on earth?

For the believer in Jesus Christ, there is a hope that triumphs over the pain of death and the stillness of the cold grave.

Easter marks the occasion of Christ’s victory over sin and death, and that fact alone can give us hope for tomorrow.

So, enjoy this day.

Catch a service at one of our area churches and fix your hope on Jesus, the One who conquered death and gave us the gift of eternal life.

  1. For me Brian, It is a time of renewal, renewal of our faith perhaps, but also of our faith in human nature, and in all life. A time to share, a time to be a member of the human race, a time to remember that all life is sacred. That little girl in Syria who is raising her hands in surrender, and her 200,000 dead countrymen, not just our “faithful men and women of uniform involved in this endeavour”
