Nick Trudeau was recently announced as the head coach of the Wallaceburg Red Devils for the upcoming season.

Last year, Trudeau was the coach for the Sarnia Beavers, a team which has moved from Sarnia to Wallaceburg this year, and will be known as the Wallaceburg Thrashers.

Trudeau is not new to Wallaceburg, in fact the very first Lacrosse game he ever played was held in Wallaceburg.

Trudeau says he wants to bring his years of experience to his new club.

Trudeau spent nine seasons in the National Lacrosse League with the Columbus Landsharks, Albany Attack, Buffalo Bandits and Toronto Rock. He was part of the team that was awarded the Mann Cup, awarded to the senior men’s lacrosse champions of Canada, in 2000 and 2005.

He also played on Walpole Island for the St. Clair Storm in 2003, adding to his local experience.

“I’ve been playing since I was six,” Trudeau told the Sydenham Current. “I always knew what I wanted to do, and I did it.”

Trudeau said his main focus as coach will be on the offensive side, as one of the coaches from last year is coming down to coach the defensive aspects of the game.

Last year, the Wallaceburg Red Devils were 14-6, good for second in the Far West division in the Ontario Junior ‘B’ Lacrosse League.

“I want to build on this and get a division title,” Trudeau said.

The Red Devils lost their opening round playoff series to Windsor last season, despite winning the first two games of the best-of-five series.

The Trudeau-era for the Red Devils starts on April 18 at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena, when the Devils host Windsor at 2 p.m.

Wallaceburg will also be travelling to Dresden this week for an exhibition game against Point Edward.
