Gord Lilley has been playing lacrosse since he was nine years old, and has coached nearly all levels of lacrosse.

He has won five provincial titles, and two Canadian championships.

This year he will be the head coach of Wallaceburg’s new Senior ‘B’ Lacrosse team – the Wallaceburg Thrashers.

This will be the first year the team is in Wallaceburg, as the team used to be the Sarnia Beavers.

“Tye Belanger played for them (Sarnia Beavers) and saw an opportunity to bring the club to Wallaceburg because the club was going to fold,” Lilley said.

Lilley said the area has a lot of talent, and having the Thrashers in town will give them an opportunity to recruit more players to Wallaceburg.

“It’s smarter lacrosse, it’s a little bit more seasoned,” Lilley said.

The team will feature many experienced lacrosse players, and the Thrashers are still in conversations with a lot of other potential players, Lilley said.

“To build a solid foundation. Moving forward the second, third year to make a real push for what we want, the Presidents cup,” Lilley said.

The team will go through a 16 game season with eight home games, and eight away games.

“We want to put a good solid team on the floor,” Lilley said.

The first game of the season will be April 25 at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena, when the Thrashers host the defending champions from Six Nations.
