The annual Dresden Sports Hall of Fame banquet was held Saturday night, and it was a packed house at Lambton-Kent Composite School.

NHL Hall of Famer Paul Coffey was the guest speaker at the event, which had over 310 people in attendance.

Dresden’s Kelly Jackson was one of the many people at the event who got a photo taken with the former Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers great.

Jackson said his she also enjoyed his speech.

“It was good,” she said. “He talked about his three favorite players, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemiuex and Steve Yzerman. He compared the game back then to what it is now, and talked a little about coaching his kids now and the importance of that. He also spoke about his experiences with Dresden natives who he encountered during his hockey career.”

A handful of annual awards were given out at the event.

Trent Fox was named as the recipient of the Walter McFadden Memorial Award for the Dresden Sports Hall of Fame Athlete of the Year.

Fox played his minor hockey in Dresden and recently completed his rookie season in the Ontario Hockey League.

He was originally drafted by the Erie Otters, but was traded last season to the Belleville Bulls.

The Bulls are set to move to Hamilton next season.

Jim Ritchie, the Dresden Minor Hockey Moms, Dennis Lindsay, and the 1968-70 Ontario Midget hockey championship team were also all indicted in the Hall of Fame.

Mark Childs, owner of the Black Goose in Wallaceburg, catered the banquet in Dresden last night.

Childs said the Saturday night event was their largest banquet of the year.
