A Walpole Island man, convicted of murder, will have to wait to hear his sentence.

Naanan Mackenzie Williams, 22, was found guilty of the second-degree murder of his 50-year-old great uncle Clifford Riley. Jurors handed down a guilty verdict in a Sarnia courtroom on January 22 concerning a 2012 murder that took place on Walpole Island.

Williams is guilty of stomping Riley on the chest to death.

On Thursday, the sentencing hearing for Williams was adjourned to June 24 in Sarnia Superior Court.

Reports say the adjournment will allow an update of a pre-sentence report to take place.

Williams’ lawyer said plans are in the works to appeal the conviction.
