Multiple traffic complaints lead to impaired driving charges on Highway 402

OPP officials allege: A driver is facing impaired driving charges following multiple traffic complaints on Highway 402, Middlesex County OPP say.

Police say officers received several reports on July 20, 2026, at around 4:40 p.m. of a possible impaired driver travelling in the eastbound lanes of Highway 402.

Officers located the vehicle in the eastbound lanes at Longwoods Road in the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc and initiated a traffic stop.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Middlesex OPP Detachment.

A 35-year-old Sarnia resident has been charged under the Criminal Code with operation while impaired by alcohol, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus, and dangerous operation.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 20, 2026, to answer to the charges.

Middlesex OPP is reminding the public that anyone who witnesses suspicious activity or suspects an impaired driver should contact police immediately.
