The top readers at A.A. Wright were recognized today at the Wallaceburg school.

Grade 6 student Kaylea Sands, Grade 3 student Riley Vannatter and Grade 1 student Xander Williams each received a certificate and special commemorative coin for winning the Sue Talach Memorial Reading Award, in honour of the late Wallaceburg teacher.

Ben Hazzard, principal at the school, said the Sue Talach Book Fund aims to enhance literacy in the community.

“One way they do that is they provide us with a reading award every year where we provide a reading award for an early primary, a Grade 3/4 student as well as Grade 5/6 Student. To celebrate a student who has grown a lot in reading and is developing a passion for reading,” Hazzard said.

Three separate presentations were held in the Learning Commons area of the school, “so we could say thank you to the Sue Talach Book Fund.

“They have provided us thousands and thousands of dollars to support our learning, the Learning Commons as well as in our community because they bring in authors for us. We got to introduce the students to each member of the Sue Talach Memorial Book Fund and then we were able to recognize the award winners,” Hazzard said.

“It was really a nice thing to show the students where the funds are coming from and who is working so hard on their behalf.”
