The Defiance Running Club’s latest program got off to a fantastic start this week.
The groups “Couch to 5K” program began Monday night and a total of approximately 30 runners came out.
“Despite the windy conditions it looks as though this program will be a success,” said Bryan Cowden, one of the executive members of the group.
Mark Childs, president of the group, said the”Couch to 5K” is a solid introductory program.
“The Couch to 5K starts out gently with a combination of short walks and jogs (1 minute intervals) and slowly increases over a 12 week period,” he said.
“We encourage members to do each set of running exercises at least three times a week. The program is very versatile and members can do the work at club runs or on their own. Each participant is given a stop watch and a print-out of the program. Our executive will help guide you through.”
Cost to become a member is $20 for the whole year.
