Wallaceburg Rotary Club celebrates 70 years

Rotary President & Past-Presidents

On Thursday, May 28, 2015, The Rotary Club of Wallaceburg celebrated its 70th anniversary since the club was formed.

The Charter was presented to the Rotary Club of Wallaceburg on June 15, 1945 by then District Governor Harvey H. Lowrey of Dearborn, Michigan to Charter President Herbert W. Burgess.

President Sussan Londry, assisted by Assistant District Governor Donald Jackson, a member of the Rotary Club of Blenheim, presented special awards to four Past-Presidents for more than 30 years of dedicated Rotary service.

ADG Don Jackson then introduced the four Past-Presidents who have all been Rotarians for over 30 years: Robin Southgate, Don Kennedy, Henry Boley and Carl MacLean.

All four are dedicated Rotarians who still attend the club’s weekly meetings, and continue to be active in the club today. Each spoke briefly about their year as president of the club and their memories and experiences in Rotary.

Jackson mentioned that our club had already won one Presidential Citation earlier this year, and then presented President Sussan Londry and our club with a second Presidential Citation, for Service to Rotary and to Polio Plus, Rotary International’s polio-eradication program.
