The summer is officially getting started in Dresden this weekend, as some annual events are set to take place.
The festivities kick start with the Kinsmen Pet and Hobby Parade on Friday night.
“It starts at the bridge, goes to Jackson Park and they have some fun things planned there for them,” said Christal Wills. “Shawn Smith is looking after it this year. I know that the Stingrays swim team is going to have something set up down there too for the kids to do.”
The marshall starts at 5 p.m. at Metcalfe and Centre St.
The parade starts at 6 p.m.
Wills said prizes will be awarded for the following categories:
– Best Dressed Boy
– Best Dressed Girl
– Best Dressed Group
– Best Pet
– Best Decorated Bike
– Best Float
– Best Non-Commercial Float
– Judges Choice
Wills said when the parade arrives at Jackson Park kids can enjoy free hot dogs, drinks and games.
“It starts the summer and lets the kids have the run of the street and bring their pets, their bikes and decorate. It’s ‘Fun in the Sun’ this year so it’s kind of an easy theme to go with. It’s a parade just for them.”
The fun doesn’t stop on Friday night either.
“The Dresden Legion is having a Fishing Derby. It starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m. They have free hot dogs and pop. They are giving away seven bikes and they have lots of other give aways as well but those are the big prizes that they like to give away.”
Wills said they have prizes for biggest fish and smallest fish as well.
“It’s always a fun time. Its nice to see everybody on the riverbank and all the kids having a good time,” she said.
Wills said the Dresden firemen are having a yard sale on the Saturday along with a barbecue.
Saturday concludes with the Burger Bash at the Legion.
It starts at 5 p.m.
“Home made hamburgers, salad, and than they have Classic Vibe playing. Closing is a question mark,” Wills said.
