On June 6, 2015, an officer responded to a theft from a residential property.

A Dresden family had a $1000 canoe stolen from the back of their property.

The canoe was tied along the bank of the Sydenham River and went missing from that location.

The Chatham-Kent Police wish to remind citizens to lock up their valuables present on their property, in sheds, garages, compounds and cars.

Many crimes are crimes of opportunity, in that a criminal sees an insecure valuable at a local business or home and seizes the opportunity presented, leaving the owner the victim of the crime.

Now that the warm weather is here for the season, these types of crimes become more prevalent and the simple act of “locking things up” can really serve to prevent one from becoming a victim of crime.
