Shoplifting complaint leads to string of charges

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a female in connection with a theft.

Shortly after 2pm yesterday, Chatham Kent Police responded to a disturbance at the Downtown Chatham Centre. Upon arrival officers learned a female party had entered a store and concealed a shirt, she then proceeded to exit the store without making any attempts to pay for the merchandise.

When asked by officers her identity, the female provided a false name and date of birth. Through investigation, officers learned the female party was also currently warranted for breaching her probation conditions.

As a result the 29 year old Wallaceburg women has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime, obstruct police and causing a disturbance as well as the warrant for breaching her probation conditions.

The female was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
