Update: Crash with scooter turns fatal

Yesterday afternoon, shortly after 1:30 p.m. emergency crews responded to a collision between a Chevrolet car and a mobility scooter at the intersection of Chatham Street North and Hannibal Street in Blenheim.

The 41-year-old woman on the mobility scooter was transported via ambulance to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with life threatening injuries and later airlifted to the London Health Sciences Centre where she succumbed to her injuries.

The woman has been identified as Jennie Verbeek, 41 years, of Blenheim.

Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service offer their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Verbeek.

The 33-year-old North Buxton man driving the car was uninjured.

The incident remains under investigation by the Traffic Unit.
