Yard sale raises funds for blind dog

pet and wildlife rescue benny terry anne burke wallaceburg yard sale

A yard sale held on Saturday in Wallaceburg will make a big difference for a local rescue dog who is going blind.

Last week we ran a Letter to the Editor from Chris Roy explaining a heartfelt story, which started when his own dog Mia fell ill.

Read Chris’ full letter here.

After learning about Mia, his cousin Terry Anne Burke was adamant that she wanted to help by donating the proceeds from the yard sale she was planning during the town-wide event.

Chris explained to Terry Anne that they were fortunate to be able to cover the cost for Mia, but that another rescue dog may not be so lucky.

Terry Anne, who is both physically and developmentally challenged, was still 100% on board with helping.

And with some guidance from the Pet and Wildlife Rescue group, this is how Benny came into the picture.

Benny  is 80 per cent blind and needs to see a specialist.

When it was all said and done on Saturday, Terry Anne’s yard sale was an amazing success.

“Thanks to everyone who came to our yard sale to support Benny,” Terry Anne wrote on Facebook. “Raised close to $500.”

Here is some more information about Benny:

“Benny is a lovely and fun 7 year old Border Collie. He is a purebred and is mostly blind. He gets along with dogs, cats and kids. His disability is not an issue at all, he loves to play ball and walk, he is a laugh a minute and has a personality that will keep you smiling everyday. This is a busy breed so an active family would be best for this handsome boy. If you have a spot for him in your family please fill out an application at www.pawr.org. Adoption fee: $280 Benny comes neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.”
