Critical injuries suffered in 401 crash

opp carOn June 23, 2015, just after 2:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers, Chatham-Kent Fire Services and Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services responded to a collision involving a tractor trailer on Highway 401 westbound near Communication Road.

The collision occurred when, for unknown reasons at this time, a westbound tractor trailer left the roadway and rolled down the hill on the north side of the CSX overpass, and came to rest on its passenger side.

The lone occupant, a 63 year old male driver from Windsor, was airlifted from the scene to hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The section of Highway 401 westbound between Communication Road and Bloomfield Road is reduced to one lane until approximately 6:30 p.m. A full closure of the highway in that area will occur at approximately 6:30 p.m. until approximately 8:30 p.m.

The investigation is continuing.
