The sweet aroma of pleasantness

From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Most weekday mornings as I drive my oldest daughter to her summer job we go through the drive-thru at McDonald’s to pick up an iced coffee.

The early morning start is helped greatly by this refreshing, if not caffeine-laced, morning beverage.

I have to tell you, I really look forward to this early morning routine and the reason for this is that I am greeted by the most cheerful, friendly faces when I drive up to the pick-up window.

I don’t know what they are putting in their own morning coffee, but whatever it is, it sure is working.

I have a hunch, though, that their warm and friendly manner is something that is encouraged by management, as it has a positive effect on the customer.

Proverbs 16:24 says, “Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”

I try to be a pleasant, cheerful person myself, but I must say, I do not hold a candle to these fine folks.

They can turn a gloomy, 7 a.m. start on a Monday into cause for celebration.

It is truly amazing how such a simple thing like pleasantness can turn a situation completely around.

It costs you very little to do it, yet it reaps great rewards.

This week, why not try converting your Monday morning moodiness into a reason to smile and laugh.

Just a few pleasant word can do the trick.

You’ll feel better and it will likely spill over to the people you come in contact with, as well.
