Councillor seeks release of closed-session information on Indian Creek Road appeal

Chatham-Kent councillor is asking council to waive solicitor-client privilege and publicly release information discussed during a closed-session meeting related to an Ontario Land Tribunal appeal involving 50 Indian Creek Rd. West in Chatham.

South Kent Coun. Ryan Doyle has submitted a motion for Monday’s council meeting seeking disclosure of legal advice provided to council during a closed-session discussion held May 26, 2025.

“Council was given advice in that closed session that ultimately lead to what we voted on and how we moved forward,” the motion states.

The motion also states “the question has been raised that some information may have not been shared with Council that could have affected the vote and direction given by Council to administration.”

Doyle’s motion asks council to “make the information discussed in that closed session public, and will waive privilege on keeping the information confidential.”

In a written response attached to the agenda, Emily Crawford said legal advice regarding the motion will be provided to council during a closed-session meeting on May 25, 2026.
