Sparling Jr. nets racing triple at Dresden Raceway

The temperatures were a scorching 43 degrees with the humidex at Dresden Raceway on Sunday but Robert Sparling Jr. was hotter.

Sparling nailed a driving triple at the southwestern Ontario oval.

Sparling’s first trip to the winner’s circle was the fourth race when he bvrought longshot ALBERGETTY home for owner trainer Doug Walter of Ingersoll. The 11-year-old Albert Albert gelding paced the mile in 1:57.2 and paid $149.50 on a two dollar bet at the window.

Sparling struck again in the fifth race with MUSICAL MATTJESTY for Jim Napper and Peter Vertaete of Bothwell. The three-year-old Royal Mattjesty filly is trained by Cathy Gaudreau and paced the mile in 2:04.1.

Sparling made it three in a row in the sixth race while at the controls of JETTA FLYS in 1:58. The seven-year-old Rambarran gelding is owned and trained by Rachel Oenema of Burgessville.

Andy Moore and Garrett Rooney each scored driving doubles as well.

Dresden Raceway celebrated the younger fans with Kid’s Day on Sunday. Clowns painted children’s faces and made balloon animals and all kids received free popsicles and t-shirts.

The handle today was $13,538 for a two day total of $23,807.
