Last night around 10:20 p.m. officers located an intoxicated man near the field house at Steinhoff Park in Wallaceburg.

Police officials say the man was causing a disturbance as citizens were trying to watch a soccer game.

Officers arrested the man for being intoxicated in a public place.

While being escorted to the cruiser, the man allegedly became resistant and assaultive towards the officers.

The man tried to head-butt the officers and began kicking his legs violently striking both officers, police say.

“In an effort to gain control of the man, the officers were forced to pepper spray him,” police officials said.

Neither officer required medical attention.

A 45-year-old Walpole Island man was charged with assault with intent to resist arrest.

He was held in custody until sober and released with conditions pending a future court date of August 25, 2015.
