Friends of the New Animal Shelter believe that Chatham-Kent’s existing animal shelter is severely inadequate to care for the vulnerable pets awaiting adoption. The goal is to raise approximately $2 million to build a bright, spacious facility that can care for these animals in an efficient and hygienic manner. Local veterinarians will be involved in the medical care.
Chatham-Kent Council approved the creation of their committee in late 2014. On May 25, 2015, a presentation was asking Council to support a $2 million fundraising campaign. Council gave unanimous support to the request! The Animal Shelter Location will be located on Park St and 405 Park Ave E.
A fundraising campaign, led by a Campaign Cabinet, will reach out to Chatham-Kent community and other interested parties to help us build a facility with that will feature:
18 dog kennels with covered runs
3 isolation kennels
3 cat rooms including screened outdoor cat runs
1 cat isolation room
1 small animal room
1 multi-purpose room
1 veterinary and treatment room
animal bathing and grooming room
receiving and storage area
staff and volunteer training room
