Dresden Kings top Wallaceburg Lakers in pre-season opener

The Dresden Kings and the Wallaceburg Lakers took to the ice for this first time all season on Sunday for a pre-season match-up.

The Kings walked away victorious with a 7-4 win.

Brady Hogg led the way for the Kings with two goals

Ryan Mallott, Brantley Kuipers, Carter Wright, Cole McGregor and Mitch Mazerole also scored for Dresden.

Veteran Derek VanEvery added two assists.

The Lakers were led by Tyler Shaw, who scored a pair of goals.

Drew Fisher and Derek Findley scored the other goals for Wallaceburg.

This will be the only pre-season match-up for Wallaceburg, while the Kings will play a home-and-home set against Mooretown on Thursday and Friday.

Wallaceburg opens the regular season on Saturday Sept. 12 against the Mooretown Flags.

Dresden opens up on Friday, Sept. 11 against Alvinston.

The Lakers finished last in the Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League loop last season with a 6-31-0-3 record, while the Kings finished in 6th place with a 19-18-2-1 record.

Dresden upset Mooretown in the opening round of the playoffs last season in seven games, before being ousted by the eventual league champion Essex 73’s in the semi-finals in four straight games.
