Be diligent and hard working, not a lazy loaf

From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

It has been said that ‘obsessive is a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated.’

Many years ago I worked as a busboy in a busy, fine-dining restaurant in South Windsor.

I loved that job a lot, but there were some people there whose chief ambition was to do the least amount of work as possible but still keep their job and get paid.

They were content to loaf around and let others carry the load.

I was even told at times from some of these free loaders to ‘slow down and take it easy’ so that they wouldn’t look bad in front of management.

I like what it says in Proverbs 13:4: ‘The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing, but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.’

The Bible is not advocating being a workaholic but it does stress the importance of working hard at something in order to do a job well.

Productivity, be it the factory or the farm, rests on the shoulders of the diligent.

Jesus Himself had a habit of rising very early, while it was still dark, to meet with His Father in prayer and start His day.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that if Jesus pursued a life of diligence, then we should, too.

Why not set the alarm a little bit earlier for tomorrow morning and cut laziness off at the pass.

You might just find that it becomes a habit!
