The Chatham-Kent Hospice project is moving closer to becoming operational brick by brick thanks to the generosity and support of the community… and they are also looking to hire.

Our Hospice Hope Chest Campaign has made great progress towards our goal of $200,000 to be used to offset the cost of furniture and equipment needed to make our hospice a home.

With the donations, we’ve been able to purchase supplies for our kitchen like a teapot and crockpot; items for our residential suites like bedding and a mini-fridge and other necessary items such as a wheelchair and towel & linen warming cupboard.

The Hope Chest Campaign will continue until the end of the year. A complete list is available on our website or by contacting us at 519-354-3113.

Construction of our new 10 bed residential hospice is going well and they are very happy with the quality of work done to date. After discussion with our architect and contractor and careful review of what is left to be done, we expect the construction to be complete in February 2016.

Once complete, we will outfit the hospice with furniture, equipment and supplies, complete the training of staff and volunteers as well as provide an opportunity for the community to come in and tour the facility.

“It is very important to our loved ones that we take the necessary time and care to complete the training and the construction perfectly. Like end of life we have one opportunity to do this right.” said Jennifer Wilson, Chair of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Board of Directors.

A “virtual hard hat tour” video is in production and will be shared on their website in November.

It will provide a sneak peak of the hospice project to date.

As the operational plans are finalized, they are starting the hiring process and will be accepting resumes for the positions of Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurse and Personal Support Worker between October 13 and October 30.
