Strong gusty winds are expected today, as Environment Canada issues a special weather advisory.

Strong and gusty west to southwest winds are expected to develop by mid morning over Southwestern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe and by early afternoon over Eastern Ontario.

A wind warning is in effect for gusts to 90 km/h for areas near Eastern Lake Erie and Eastern Lake Ontario. The threat for high winds will continue much of the day.

Most other areas near the lower lakes, as well as in the St Lawrence Valley, can expect wind gusts to 80 km/h and possibly higher. These places will be monitored closely for a potential wind warning.

The winds may be strong enough to cause some tree damage and local power outages, especially in areas where trees remain in partial to full leaf.

Conditions will improve by Friday as the fall storm moves away into Northern Quebec.
