A doctor at the Wallaceburg site of the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team is leaving.

Dr. Rizwan Muhammad will no longer be practicing at the Wallaceburg Community Medical Centre site at 30 McNaughton Avenue.

“He is going to be doing straight emergency work (with the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance,)” said Laura Johnson, executive director for the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team. “He’ll still be in the community, just not in primary care.”

Johnson said all of Dr. Muhammad’s patients are being transferred to either Dr. Muhammad Afzal or Dr. Naveed-Ul Hassan.

“A letter went out to each patient about two weeks ago letting them know who they will be assigned to,” Johnson said.

No replacement plan is in place at this time, Johnson added.

“We will be recruiting an additional physician… we’re just going to take our time.”

The Wallaceburg Community Medical Centre has undergone considerable renovations in the past couple of years, and a $200,000 fundraising campaign is set to be wrapped up.

“We’re just about ready to close our fundraising,” Johnson said. “We’ve raised about $170,000 right now, which has been great.”

For anyone that does not have a family physician, Johnson said patients are still being accepted at the Wallaceburg site.
