I read a really good quote on Facebook recently, which said this: “Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same.”
How many times have you said to yourself, as you were going through a rough patch, “Wow! Something must not be right, otherwise I wouldn’t be having all this trouble!”?
It can sometimes be too easy to conclude that having to endure through something is a sign that we took a wrong turn somewhere, but that may not always be the case.
To be sure, there are those times when difficulty comes our way because we messed something up, but at other times it signals that something of value is going to require a little more effort and patience.
Athletes know this when prepping for a big game.
Couples know this as they raise their small children.
Government leaders know this as they make the hard decisions that will serve their constituents best.
Jesus put it this way in Matthew 7:13-14: “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who find it. But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
Lowering the bar and compromising one’s standards may certainly make life easier, but more often than not, it is not the right path to take.
