Fatal semi-tractor fire on the 402

On January 31, 2016 at approximately 3:15 a.m. the Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended the west bound lanes of the 402 Highway at the Camlachie Road overpass to investigate a motor vehicle fire.

Upon OPP arrival a Freightliner semi-tractor was found to be fully engulfed in flames.

Initial investigation has revealed that one party was able to safely remove himself from the semi-tractor.

However, attempts to rescue a passenger were unsuccessful.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the victim until identification is confirmed and the affected family members have been notified.

The Lambton County OPP Crime Unit, the Regional Fire Marshall’s and Coroner’s Offices are investigating the circumstances.

The entirety of the west bound lanes of the 402 Highway will remain closed between Oil Heritage Road and Mandaumin Road until approximately 4:00 p.m. The OPP will advise when the 402 Highway has re- opened.
