The body of a man was found off the shore of Harsens Island this morning.

According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, Clay Township Police first received the call from a resident in the 1500 block of North Channel Drive.

Harsen’s Island is located on the St. Clair River in the United States, across from Walpole Island.

When it was determined the body was in the water, the case was turned over to the Sheriff’s Office.

Homeowners discovered the body floating in a cut off the North Channel of the St. Clair River shortly before 10:30 this morning.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office went to the residence, where they were assisted by Clay Township Fire Department, who used their airboat to reach the man and get his body out of the water.

Detectives are investigating the incident.

At this time, no determination has been made on the person found in the water, other than he is an older, white male.

Missing person data bases are being checked for a possible connection to the person found.

The man has been transported to the St. Clair County morgue at McLaren Port Huron Hospital.

An autopsy will be conducted to try to determine cause and manner of death, and to try to make positive identification of the man.

Although no connections have been made to the two investigations, the London Police and the Lambton OPP have been searching for a missing man – 68-year-old, Richard (Paul) Wainwright from London.

Wainwright’s car was discovered in Sombra yesterday.

We’ll provide more details when they become available.
