The Chatham-Kent Police Service have made an arrest after a van plunged into the Sydenham River on Monday morning.

Police officials say just before 6:30 a.m. this morning, police received information that a motor vehicle had driven into the Sydenham River just off Water Street in Wallaceburg.

Emergency crews responded to the area and a 32-year-old North Bay man was found sitting on the back porch of a residence being tended to by the homeowners.

He was transported to Sydenham District Hospital for medical attention, where he was treated and released.

The Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services Dive Team entered the water to confirm no one else was in the submerged vehicle.

Once the vehicle was pulled from the water, police determined that the 1995 green Dodge Caravan was stolen from Riverview Drive in Chatham.

The man has been arrested and transported to police headquarters.

The investigation remains on-going.
